Well if you don't care or need vista the best bang for your buck would be at Dell where they still of Windows XP. With Windows Vista you'll need to spend more to get good performance. They do have some nice laptops at Circuit City. As much as I hate these stores I did run across some Toshiba and HP laptops under $1000 where you could get no interest financing for a year or something. Hope those suggestions can get ya started.

idk like around $1000 for a decent 1. u would need at least 1gb of memory. go to dell or other sites, sumtimes they have good deals
