I was in Beardmore, when it was -54degrees, it looked like crystalline fog, what is that called? An Inversion?

At that temperature it should have been ice crystals forming directly from vapor as it was too cold to form snow flakes from condensing moisture.

an inversion is when temperatures increase with height.
