What is the best way to sell a comic book collection?

I have at least 1000 older comics, mostly from the early 90’s, though there are a few older books. Mostly Marvels (Spidey, X-men, etc), some of the newer companies (Image, Valiant) and a few of DC’s bigger stories from the 90’s. I’ve seen them for sale on E-bay, but don’t want to deal with that. Would a convention be worth looking into? Anyone know of buyers in the Chicaland area.

As was stated in an earlier answer, comics from the early 90's were massively overproduced, as speculators investing in comics and sports cards was at an all-time high. Most will not even bring their cover price in auction or sale. If you have key issues, they might be easier to sell, but they have to be in literally mint condition to draw interest. Common books from this time period will be good kindling for the fireplace. Just way too much supply and no demand. Comics are usually a great long-term investment, especially Golden & Silver Age books. Bronze Age books are really starting to get some attention from investors. Professionally graded comics are the best investment, because there is no question to what the comics grade is, period. I hope this helps. BR.

I sold a lot of my comics in the 90's to finance a move. If you go the convention route, you'll mostly be dealing with supply and demand. If most of yours were in the 90's "Comic Boom", during the variant cover & cover inhancement craze, I'd say you'd get very little out of them, as most of these books are in markdown bins at shops. They were so overly produced and so many people got rid of them when they figured out it wasn't the investment they thought, most serious collectors have a lot of them. I would suggest asking a dealer you trust what they would do in your position. Type up a list, noting the variants and special issues. Most dealers will try to get a long box from you for $10, saying that they don't sell well, which may be the truth, or it just may be good business on their behalf. you might also try putting like issues together and put them on ebay as sets. you'd get more money and it would be easier for you, less postage, etc.

Sorry to say, comics from the 90's are not going to be in much demand, with very few exceptions. Your best bet is to hang onto them and keep them in good condition. Some late 80's/early 90's book will see a spike in value (first appearance of Venom) with the release of SM3, but so many issues from that time period are readilt available they are barely worth their original cover prices.

If you rent yourself a table at a convention and sell your comics is a good route .
Also try flea markets on the weekends .
Comic book stores will not give you the value of your comic because they are trying to make a profit .
