While it might seem like your dog is willing to eat darn near anything, they are a little bit more picky than you think. A corpse that has been decomposing for a long period of time is not edible and therefore, not appetizing in the least.
Fresh vomit on the other hand is still edible and he'll happily lap it up.
Sometimes animals are missing certain nutrients from their normal diet and feel the urge to eat feces or other disgusting material to satisfy those urges. Same as it is with a pregnant woman who feels the urge to eat chinese food in the middle of the night when there are no restaurants open within 50 miles. :)

That's because 'disgust' is a human emotion that we have evolved. Actually many animals will steer clear of faeces, vomit or putrified food, they instinctively know what will make them ill. It is from this instinct that we have evolved Disgust.

Dogs will tend to be pretty 'gross' in our eyes, eating poo and such - you could argue that their domestication has made them lose that instinct. Or, it could be that what they're eating might seem gross to us but isn't actually going to do them any harm.

'Disgust' is completely subjective, especially from species to species!
