Me and 3 other guys have been good mates since University (3 years ago now) but in the past year everything has changed. Two of us are from middle class backgrounds and have recently become very very arrogant and enjoy playing down the other two's lifestyle. The other two are from working class backgrounds but have made and making great efforts to improve life. The middle class two are very snobbish and make comments like; I bought a playstation for 500 pounds just because I can etc... Hilariously the poorer two although they lack the advantages one is a successful business man and the other is doing another degree at a better university and set to get a 1st class well over the other two's 3rd and 2/2. The last few months have been more and more intense competition and pay to look good but it doesn't wash since the poorer two are well overtaking them now in every way.

But I thought we we're supposed to be friends? What do you think happened for it to be this way?

Why are you friends with these people if this is how they treat one another? They must not be great mates if they pride themselves on not only how much mula they've got, but also flashing it for all to see...
I work a lower class job in the nonprofit sector and make almost nothing. If my friends treated me this way, and I don't know why they ever would... because I know better than to let snobby girls treat me like crap... I'd start hanging out with more friendly people. People that treat eachother with common decency.
Conclusion: I don't know why, but you should start hanging out with new people.

The first mistake was becoming arrogant and playing down the other two's lifestyles...friends do not do that. Friendship is not based on lifestyles, wealth or life choices. They are based on caring for someone for who they are as a person.
Friends don't dog friends. Maybe you need to re-think what the word friendship means.

be cool...

I cant stand w----kers whatever class they are from!! Clearly they feel the need to brag and lets be honest here its the only attention they are going to get. My dad always said never be ashamed of where you come from some of the really great and good come from the working classes. At least we have earnt our way through life and can be proud of it. And as for their friendship well they have shown their true colours who needs friends like that!!!!!!!

how about you try living it down for a while and hope the others follow your example. turn the other cheek if your friends try to guile you into spending big and only buy what you need.
if there's still competition between the other three it's going to kill the friendship so talk to each of them and tell them you don't care anymore about who has more money. if spending big isn't even going to get a reaction it kind of loses its point.
hope this helps :]

You've probably outgrown each other. The people you hang out with the most are the people who will have a positive or negative effect on you as an individual. Choose your friends carefully.

Sounds like jealousy to me. The underdogs are no longer the underdogs and it is upsetting the apple cart.

"keeping up with the Jones has only made your life a mess, bill collectors and tranquilizers and getting deeper in debt . . .you better leave . . . them Jones alone!"

There's alot of wisdom in that old Temptation song.
