I usually skip lunch because if I take on of the gals out for lunch the others get mad. Office romances are the pits Sweetie. All the gals walk by and smile cause they're all talking between themselves about how good Grassy is. Just one nights sleep would be marvelous

I dont enjoy going out to lunch w/ co-workers, i like to meet up with a friend so I don't have to talk about work during lunch

Sarah P has some good suggestions if you don't want to just suck it up and go. You really should go. As much as you may love your job, there's no way around having to do stuff you don't wanna do occasionally, so just look at this as another one of those things. If you don't know who gets your gift, then that leaves you free to buy something super generic, like some sort of Christmas decoration. Personally, I like Sarah's suggestion of attending the lunch but politely excusing yourself from the gift exchange. Like she said, you don't have to offer an explanation, and nobody will ask. If you take that route, be prepared for your coworkers to suspect that you are having financial problems. Depending on what your relationship with them is like, they may just talk about you to each other, or they may leave food at your desk while you are gone to help you out. It might not happen, but it could.

I like to socialize with others so eating lunch with co-workers is all good...i mean who wants to eat alone.

i usually eat lunch by myself..most of them takes an hour lunch and i usually take a 30 mins lunch, plus i get in early..

I usually eat with a coworker and enjoy it. But, sometimes I enjoy the peace and quite of eating by myself with just me and the breeze of the fan. No radio, no tv, no talking. Just my thoughts to keep me company.
