If you are single then you are the sole legal owner of your "thingy", however, if you have chosen to take a wife, then legally she now has 50% ownership in your "thingy".

When it comes to thingys, I believe the universal legal precedence is:
"Whereas an individual's thingy is a permanent structure to one's possession, & whereas thingys cannot be removed without significant force and effort, it is therefore determined that an individual is entitled to full & outright ownership of his/her thingy for life. Unless, of course, you get married, and an individual's thingy becomes property of the wife."

If this is a question you have to ask here I think it might be better for everyone if your bird had legal ownership of it.

If you can feel a large thumb pressing down upon your head, and the urge to spin in a clockwise direction into the foundations of your bird's house, then she owns you. And your "thingy"

If by 'thingy' you mean turd, and by 'bird' you mean council, I would say that it becomes their property once you've flushed it beyond your house boundary
