Question about legislation . . .?

Question

Do you think our politicians should ratify legislation based on the way things should be or the way things are? Consider the questions with regard to welfare reform, immigration, abortion, education . . . where do you fall on the spectrum. Are you an idealist or a realist? politicians should try to do what is best for the nation. If something seems impossible to change, it is there job to figure out how to make it better.
