Marriage has been defined since the dawn of civilization as the legal and sanctified union between a man and a woman. Until just the last few years, this definition has held firm in every society in the world (note that some permit polygamy). It provides gays with a special right. As of now, gays and straights have exactly the same rights when it comes to marriage. That is, any unmarried person can marry, through mutual agreement, any other unmarried person of the opposite sex. Any legal or financial arrangement that is 'automatic' with marriage can be arranged through contacts between the parties...after all, marriage is a contract. So, while societyu has to recognize binding agreements, it does not have to change definitions and recognize gay unions as marriage.

I believe when you have met the right one, you will know it right away--you just seem to click. This is my second marriage (previous husband died)...when my present husband and myself met, we knew very soon that we would be married.

The basis for a good marriage? Love each other enough that when some bad times and misunderstandings come, you will love each other enough to fix those problems. Dont run out the door when the first problems come.

You need to trust your mate, have a lot of things in common, you need to feel committment to your spouse. If you laugh together, this is a good foundation.

A good basis for marriage is mutual love and respect for one another. Strong marriages also need a strong foundation. That is, a strong spiritual base.

As long as you love one another, you have to have trust and respect and without that there is no real relationship, you would just be wasting your time, energy and money.

Mutual love, mutual respect. Solid communications, good things and not so good things. Compatibility. The ability to realize you are not perfect, and neither are they.
