OK, as much as I think abortion is sickening, and I cannot believe that a society as advanced as ours allows such a barbaric idea, what do you think about this?
OK, abortion is legal in this country right now. I, along with a vast number of people in this country, want to make it illegal, or at least leave it up to the states. I have heard many REALLY bad arguments for abortion on here, but there is a new argument for abortion:
What if the woman who is pregnant is not fit to be a mother?
So I have a proposed solution. Keep abortion legal, with one rule: Once you get an abortion, you will also be sterilized for life.
It will SEVERELY cut down on the amount of abortions, and a woman who is obviously not fit to become a mother, well, will never become a mother.
And as sick of an idea this is, I find it a little more acceptable than just killing millions of babies. But that's just me. You think this idea is sick, too? Well, let's just MAKE ABORTION ILLEGAL!

Regulating abortion is a state issue today. The original ruling in Roe v Wad said states could not infringe on a woman's right to seek an abortion in the first trimester of pregnancy. This did not give anyone the absolute right to an abortion. The Supreme Court allowed states to regulate where an abortion could be performed and who could perform the abortion. It allowed state to set minimum reporting requirements., and almost from the first no money from the national government could be used to pay for abortions. Almost every state forbids state money to be used to pay for abortions.
If I remember correctly no doctor living in North Dakota, South Dakota, or Montana will perform an abortion. Texas is a huge state. Find Brownsville at the very southern tip of the state. Follow the Gulf of Mexico until you reach Houston. Abortions are not performed in the area between Brownsville (actually Harlingen) and Houston.
Today, the rule is states may not place an undue burden on a woman's right to seek an abortion. Requiring a patient to see a counselor before the procedure is not an undue burden, nor is requiring the patient to see a counselor and wait until the next day. Patients under 18 may require parental notification or permission of a judge. Without government assistance the woman will need to pay for the procedure.
For those of you who want to make abortion illegal. Hold tight!! In Roe v. Wade, the court ruled that a woman had the right to the privacy of her body and the states could not infringe on her right to seek an abortion.
Conservatives on the Supreme Court usually uphold previous court decisions; however, the current group of court conservatives are likely to overturn Roe in they find one more vote.
Wait you say!! Wait until a Democrat is elected president! Alas, it is likely that when a Democrat is president, those justices most likely to die or retire are those who already support Roe. The president would appoint a supporter of Roe with a supporter of Roe. the outcome of a case would not be affected.
If you want to criminalize abortion, you need wait only a few years. The court will say that states have the right to regulate abortion and women do not have the right to the privacy of their bodies.

The fact is that this "vast" number you talk about is in the minority. Most people in this country do not want to see Roe v. Wade repealed. And this "solution?"
Talk about playing God. Let me get this straight. You don't want women to have an abortion because you find it sickening and it's murder in your eyes, and in the eyes of God, correct? But yet you are willing to then "punish" a woman who has had an abortion by taking away her right to have children in the future. So any children that God has planned for this woman to have in the future are now never going to become a reality because you say so? If she doesn't have the right to make the original decision for herself because abortion isn't right, how is your decision to take away her fertility fit in with that theory? How is it YOUR right to deny the birth of those future children? Yes, it's not only a sick idea, but seems to have at its base a basic belief that God would approve of your actions while damning her for her actions. Could this be anymore twisted? I'm not really sure.
If you wish to make abortion illegal, keep working for your beliefs. But this sort of weird non-logic isn't helping your cause.

The Constitution and the Bill of Rights do not address abortion and it is a tremendous stretch to pretend either does. What the pro-death crowd would have everyone believe is that if the Supreme Court should strike down abortion it would be an egregious attack upon the rights of women. Actually, should that happen, any state that wanted to allow abortion would be able to do so by passing legislation allowing it. Observation: Even pro-deathers on the birth end are pro-lifers on the death penalty end.

I agree with you on abortion, that it must be brought down.
I do not agree with the notion of sterilization.
HERE is where we have failed: OUR children are being raised outside of the family. The information they receive is wrong, but in many cases, all they have.
IF parents would raise their own children and teach them the basic tenants of morality, abortion will go down.
I think our responsibility is clear.
I don't see abortion becoming illegal. I do think we have a chance for overturning laws that allow under-aged girls to get an abortion without parental consent. (Ooo, that one ticks me off!)
Parents HAVE GOT TO take control of their children. Take back your rights to raise them! How many parents actually talk to their children about these issues? If we did, sex and drug ed classes like the Colorado debacle would be moot!
An child educated, and taught morals is less likely to fall victim to the PC brigade . . . and to the liberal-moral-less class.

Abortion should be legal because
1- Prohibition doesnt work
2-The government can stay out our private affairs and bodies (a right not left argument)
3- Too many "barbaric" ideas condones by some conservatives in the first place to not make that argument look suspicious.
Any good conservative knows killing is as American as apple pie. Just make sure you kill the right ones.
Pro-Choice is not liberal per se.Thanks.

Abortion is legal in the US on the basis that legislating reproduction would violate the implied right to privacy. Obviously, your proposal would also violate that right - among other, more universeally recognized human rights.

Are we also going to sterilize the men who impregnate the women? The men who participate in the creation of a child should be held equally responsible for all consequences, including the murder of an unborn child which he helped to create.

I think you might be on to something.
If we can take the rights of a murder away by imprisonment, then we should have the right to take away baby murders rights to abort again. O ya lets let them stand before a jury too then . After all it is the American way.

Its the persons choice what they do to there body (and i view a baby in your womb still a part of your body). Plus with abortion come stem cells which can be used to save countless lives in the long run. There are many reasons for abortion, rape, being unfitt, mistake so on. We should have the choice on how are lives will play out and not be stuck with a baby at 16 because of a silly drunken mistake.
