The pith is the culprit. The pith is the soft fibrous tissue that surrounds the seeds in the center of the cucumber. It creates gas when in the presence of gastric juices. The gas makes you burp.
If you would like to enjoy cucumbers and not burp, you can. Split your cucumber in half down its length. Simply scrape the center portion of the cucumber out with a spoon. Throw the pith and seeds away. You can eat it with impunity because the gas-producing pith is gone.

Although I don't know what its called there is actually something in them that makes you burp....I also know that if you want to grow your own you can buy a burp-less variety of seeds. Hope it helps.

Cucmbers make you burp because of the seeds, if you remove them you won't burp as much.

LOL, I do it too! I think it's because they're gassy. Have you heard of a product called "Beano"? If you take one of those it will stop gas and burping. It's tried and true. (Especially if I've had chili- TMI)

Try burpless varieties of cucumbers they have lesser ammounts of the compound that causes indigestion....typically European varieties are that type...it's usually American slicing cucumbers that cause the problem.

PS. I think it's the seeds that cause the problem!
