Earlier issued (as late as 1960 or later) social security cards had the words "Not for identification," printed on the bottom front side. In an "information age," however, it has become our major source of identification.

Businesses are NOT allowed to deny service or goods if you refuse to give social security number, unless a background check or credit check is required to receive the goods or service. They must accept a Driver's License Number instead for identification.

actually, SSN are used for identification. You use it to write checks, it use to be on your student ID. You need to have that number to get a driver licence, to get a house loan. Everything. Now, people who use it should only have the right to see, credit information, work history and address. Unless they are getting a police background check, or driving record. You do not have to give you SSN over the phone but they usually only ask for the last 4 digits.

Your social security number can be used for identification. I would be very careful to whom you give your social security number to. People can refuse to give you service if that number is not given to them. Protect that number with your life.

She worked for my mom for a pair months, then supply up. After she supply up, my mom have been given a pass to from social secure practices people who found out the identity replaced into pretend. i ask your self what occurred to the girl, provided that there is plenty stuff unlawful immigrants won't be in a position to get admission to and that's no longer her fault her mom and dad carried her into the country.

ss#'s are identifications for credit services. People shouldn't be asking you for your card or number - that's what an ID and Drivers License are used for.

Not sure what ppl, stands for ss numbers are basically tax ID numbers and thats it. specifically no a business can't demand and then refuse you service if you do not provide it. THIS does not include a transaction in which you are providing a taxable service then they would need it so they can report. ie my landlord I rent from him i need his SS# so i can report my payment of rent to him UNLESS he has a separate tax ID number established.
hope this helps
