Since the number 13 has the stigma of doom, bad luck, etc., hotels choose to call it the 14th floor (when in reality, of course we all know that it is the 13th floor). This is a superstition, and one that has endured the longest in the actual world of reality.
Have a lovely rest of the evening.

13 is thought to be a bad omen for buildings. There have been floors that are the thirteenth floor but few are far in between. I think it might be some government plan that they take the 13th floor for there use to spy on america!!! LOL! Crazy. There are some movies about the 13th floor, you should check it out sometime!!!!

It is the same as Friday 13th, The hotels lost the business for the 13th floor it always stayed empty, so for business and money circumstances they removed the thirteenth floor.

Just goes back to the supersticious reasons for 13 being bad luck. People I know don't even like staying on the 14th floor because it technically still is the 13th floor. Call it 14,16, 20; it still is the 13th floor.

13 is considered unlucky.
At the Last Supper, Judas, the betrayer, was the thirteenth person at the table (Jesus + 12 apostles).
It was thereafter considered a bad omen to dine with 13 people. In the myth, misfortune and/or death would befall the first person to stand up after the meal.
The origin of the story was lost, and 13 just became generally "unlucky".

people are too superstitious to stay in them, so hoteliers decided to just "skip" the 13th floor in labeling. incredibly enough, it works. people who stay on the 14th floor don't ever grasp that it's actually the 13th.

Because everyone thinks that 13 is a very unlucky number. People are very supersticious. They think it is bad luck. You know like never cross a black cat's path or never walk under a ladder ( ouch! ) and don't step ona crack! ( MOMMY! )

It's superstition that it's an unlucky number, so most hotels and office buildings skip that number.
