points here are like friends on myspace, even though there is absolutly no use for them in any way, people just want to have more than everybody else.
The point system however forces you to answer some questioins thus contributing to the YA process, if everybody just asked questions it wouldn't work. Of course there are going to be people who just create new accounts when they run out of points, but its better than no system at all.

No, I can't have a free meal, but the points certainly helps me to meet great people on Yahoo!Answers when I asked questions! ^_^

no but you can ask questions and give out stars and give thunbs up or down.
but wouldn't that be nice but instead of a free buger , I would get those nummy chicken selects with ranch
