It's the Eye of Horus, not "Horace." Horus is hawk-headed Egyptian god of War and Vengeance. He is the son of Isis and Osiris, and he avenged his father's death by defeating the Storm God Set. The symbol of the Eye of Horus is a powerful protective amulet, as are the symbols of all warrior gods. The Eye of Horus is also, very likely, the origin of the "Evil Eye" amulet worn in Islamic countries around the Mediterranean to ward off the Evil Eye. (This would be what Sir James Frazer would call a Pagan survival -- an aspect of ancient Pagan magic or religion that survives today in watered-down form as a superstition,or are absorbed into the traditions of the dominant religion. Throwing coins in wishing wells, dying Easter eggs, decorating Christmas trees, and knocking on wood are also examples of Pagan survivals. But I digress.)

That's "The Eye of Horus" not "Horace."
Horus was an Egyptian god with the head of a hawk (and very acute eyesight as a result) who could espy evil from afar.
For Egyptian symbols, try looking up "hieroglyphics".
