When I was a 2 pack a day Marlboro man (for 21 years), I felt the same way you do, Questioner.

My argument was, if you're worried about polluting your body with second hand smoke, stop driving your damn SUV. If you had to choose between being in a closed room with a smoker or being in a closed room with a running automobile, Which one do you think will kill you faster? You hear of NO ONE who committed suicide by smoking too much, but you HAVE heard of peeps running a hose into the car, closing the windows and going to sleep forever.

I quit smoking back in November. At the mid term elections, yet ANOTHER referendum on the Arizona ballot (Arizona being one of the reddest of the Red States) to increase State Sales Tax on a carton of smokes ANOTHER $8.00, ot $.80 a pack, which brought just STATE taxes on a carton to over $20. That was enough for me, I could no longer afford to smoke.

But the interesting point is, the pollution from cars here is so bad some days (you can see Phoenix just covered in a brown cloud), older people are warned not to go outside or they could die from the crap in the air. When do we put warning labels on cars and trucks? Can I be walking down the sidewalk and sue every car owner who passes me, for polluting the air I breathe?

A business owner should be the one to decide whether or not smoking is allowed. A total ban is unfair to the smokers as their choices of where they can go is eliminated. I agree with most bans in public places but not in bars/clubs. We had a ban here for every business and I know that it hurt them. Most of the bars and clubs shortened hours and laid off employees. Non smokers are not really drinkers either and do no make up for the loss of the smokers.

The argument with cars and smoking is old. Do you have a better agenda on how to get around? Should we all throw out our keys, and get to walking? We need automobiles to survive. We use our vehicles to bring home our income to feed ourselves, our kids, and support our lives. Do you need cigarettes to live? Do you need them to put food on your table? Honestly, Id rather stand on the sidewalk with a running car, then a smoker. Smokers may not realize it, but us non smokers don't like the smoke filling our lungs, and we certainly don't want to smell like you. Why should we have to smell like an ash tray???

my only problem with them is in private places, who should be able to dictate what goes on(as far as a legal activity) in a private establishment like a bar...if a waitress doesn't want to work in a smoky bar, get a job somewhere else, a business owner should be able to allow it since it is legal, now if the government really wants to put their money where their mouths are, they will make it illegal and stop taking contribution from tobacco sources and stop making tax money off the cash cow, we all know that will never happen though

is that a question?

I'm a smoker who is 100% for the smoking ban in public places. I never want to endanger the lives of others because of my deadly habit. Its immoral and selfish if you don't care about those around you.

What do you have against breathing?

You can smoke all you want, just respect my right to breathe.

Well, since your secondhand smoke can give my lungs cancer, I'd say that I have a say in whether or not you pollute my body, wouldn't you?

Smoke at home if it's so important to you.

I support smoking bans. If you want to fill your lungs with tar and nicotine then go ahead.

I don't want no part of it.

for people who don't know , all the gov't vehicles will give you lung cancer before anyone's cigarettes will. anyways, it is funny how they have never been able to actually do a study that proves second hand smoke will give you lung cancer.
