Downtown Houston, Texas, May 1, 2006. Jim Moore was reporting for KHOU-TV, a Houston TV station working an interview with an illegal immigrant. The following is a transcript of that interview.
Jim: Juan, I see that you and thousands of other protesters are
marching in the streets to demonstrate for your cause. Exactly what is
your cause and what do you expect to accomplish by this protest?
Juan: We want our rights. We will show you how powerful we
are. We will bring Houston to its knees!
Jim: What rights?
Juan: Our right to live here...legally. Our right to get all the benefits you get.
Jim: When did you come to the United States?
Juan: Six years ago. I crossed over the border at night with seven other friends.
Jim: Why did you come?

Juan: For work. I can earn as much in a month as I could in a year in Mexico. Besides, I get free health care, our Mexican children can go to school free, if I lose my job I will get welfare, and someday I will have the Social Security. Nothing like that in Mexico!
Jim: Did you feel badly about breaking our immigration laws when you came?
Juan: No! Why should I feel bad? I have a right to be here. I have a right to amnesty. I paid lots of money for my Social Security and Green Cards.
Jim: How did you acquire those documents?
Juan: From a guy in Dallas. He charged me a lot of money too.
Jim: Did you know that those documents were forged?
Juan: It is of no matter. I have a right to be here and work.
Jim: What is the "right" you speak of?
Juan: The right of all Aliens. It is found in your Constitution. Read it!

Jim: I have read it, but I do not remember it saying anything about rights for Aliens.
Juan: It is in that part where it says that all men have Alien rights, like the right to pursue happiness. I wasn't happy in Mexico, so I came here.
Jim: I think you are referring to the Declaration of Independence
and that document speaks to unalienable rights ... Not Alien rights.
Juan: Whatever.
Jim: Since you are demanding to become an American citizen,
why then are you carrying a Mexican Flag?
Juan: Because I am Mexican.
Jim: But you said you want to be given amnesty ... To become a US citizen.
Juan: No. This is not what we want. This is our country, a part of
Mexico that you Gringos stole from us. We want it returned to its
rightful owner.
Jim: Juan, you are standing in Texas. After wining the war with Mexico, Texas became a Republic, and later Texans voted to join the USA. It was not stolen from Mexico.

Juan: That is a Gringo lie. Texas was stolen. So was California, New
Mexico and Arizona. It is just like all the other stuff you Gringo steal, like oil and babies. You are a country of thieves. You steal babies.
Jim: Babies? You think we steal babies?
Juan: Sure. Like from Korea and Vietnam and China I see them all over the place. You let all these foreigners in, but try to keep the Mexicans out. How is this fair?
Jim: So, you really don't want to become an American citizen then.
Juan: I just want my rights! Everyone has a right to live, work, and
speak their native language wherever and whenever they please. That's
another thing we demand. All signs and official documents should be in
Spanish. Teachers must teach in Spanish. Soon, more people here in
Houston will speak Spanish than English. It is our right!
Jim: If I were to cross over the border into Mexico without proper documentation, what rights would I have there?

Juan: None. You would probably go to jail, but that's different.
Jim: How is it different? You said everyone has the right to live
wherever they please.
Juan: You Gringos are a bunch of land grabbing thieves. Now you want Mexico too? Mexico has its rights. You Gringos have no rights in Mexico. Why would you want to go there anyway? There is no free medical service, schools, or welfare there for foreigners such as you. You cannot even own land in my country. Stay in the country of your birth.
Jim: I can see that there is no way that we can agree on this issue.Thank you for your comments.
Juan: Viva Mexico!

The interview itself I believe is an act of Fiction. It is just a little too contrived. too stereotypical to be real.
But I live in South Texas and I have a lot of experiance with both legal and illegal aliens, and not all of them from Mexico.
The arguements that "Juan" makes in this fake interview does reflect the feelings of many of the ilegals. not all of them. but many of those who are fighting for their "rights" which they don't have.
One of the tactics I most despise is the tactic of labeling you against all immigrants if you speak out against illegal immigration.
My first wife I met here in the USA, She was a resident Alien who came here legally when she was only 11. During our Marriage she got her citizenship and is now an American Citizen. Though we are divorced now, we are still friends. just this last year she has adopted legally a boy from China.
Currently I am Remarried to a Cambodian National. I went overseas twice to go to interviews and paperwork filing to get her VISA to come to the USA. She came to the US just this last Dec and we were Married in Jan of this year.
Anyone who tries to claim I am against Immigration in general can shove his opinion up his ***.
I personally believe Those who come here and CHOOSE to be Americans make for better Americans than those of us Born and raised here (Yes I am a natural born American). Those of us born here take too much for granted. those who come here by choice know what the rest of the world is like and know too just what we have (Freedom) and know how precious it is.
I am firmly for shutting down the borders (insofar as illegals sneaking across). Those who wish to come here legally I would still welcome with open arms.
As to those Illegals that are here now, what to do? this is a difficult problem in its carrying out.
First off there are two kinds of illegals.
1. those who come here honestly seeking a better life and wanting to be Americans, but lack the knowledge and/or funds to go through the legal process, fees, forms, etc..
2. those who come across seeking personal; gain and be it by crime, drugs, or even legal job. They have no intention of becoming American. they think they have a right to US government handouts like welfare and Social Security. they think they are entitled to the same rights as US citizens and as such they drive up the cost of those same services to those who actually need it.
First we need a method of seperating the illegals into the two groups. and we need to help those of the first group to remain and gain their citizenship. The Second group needs to placed in jail or special holding facility until we can ship their butts back to whatever country they come from. I say whatever country because I know that it's not just Mexicans that are illegals. (Thogh they are by far the most numerous).
To start with, any Illegal that has had a criminal brush with the law (Besides their illegal status, which makes them criminal in and of itself) will be automatically placed in the second group.
the sheer number of illegals in this country makes any attempt to deal with them in a timely manner problematic.
To aid us in dealing with them, we must first turn away from the problem of the illegals already here. They ARE here after all and already were here before. and that is not something that is going to change quickly or soon. We first must deal with closing the border to an new illegals sneaking in. This will stop the influx of new illegals to deal with as we struggle to deal with those that are already here.
Back to the original "interview"...
Though I believe it is fake. it does remind me of a real event that happened back before our last presidential election.
there was a group of Italians who were protesting in Rome. What were they protesting? They thought they should have the right to vote in our (The USA) presidential election.
They thought that since the USA was so influential around the world that they should have some say in who our president is.

My mother came to the US after she married my dad (who was NOT a citizen BUT had a GREEN CARD -- he was German). By US laws back then AND today she was legal.
What gets under my skin are these ILLEGALS that cannot READ, or WRITE, let alone SPEAK English and say (no demand) the same rights that the hard working citizens of the US get. This way of thought is not reserved for the ILLEGALS in the US but the GHETTO TRASH of our country. They think they are born in the US and the white honky forefathers forced them into slavery; it is the tax payers job and responsibility to pay their welfare checks to open their legs and make more babies.
Sorry but I much rather an ILLEGAL here in the US who build our Walmarts, KMarts, houses; who clean our toilets, and actually try to better their lives by putting an honest days work, than an illegal/ghetto trash demanding this or wanting that, when they don't even work LET ALONE pay their taxes.
What I would love see done for the HARD WORKING ILLEGALS that are here to better their lives is to give them that "fast track to citizenship". But the ones that are here that cannot even speak English and are here just to pop out their babies -- if they want their kids to have US citizenship, then put their kids in the fostercare system, and FORCE yes you heard me right FORCE the parents that are a burden on our healthcare to work to pay off their debt to the hospital AND then pay their bus ticket back to Mexico.
It is NOT the poor of the US that funds these stupid mexicans (yes, my own Mexican mother calls them that) here in the US, hell they can't even afford to wipe their butts if it wasn't for the foodstamp money they get. The rich have all the lawyers, and tax professionals finding loop holes for them so everything they have is a tax write off. Unfortunately it is the middle class that has to pay the majority of the bill for the ILLEGALS and the GHETTO TRASH of the US.
And in conclusion, and I hate to bust JUAN's bubble, but if he has the nerve to claim that the AMERICANS are land grabbers, then what the hell are the MEXICANS. The American forefathers (whether they were from SPAIN or FRANCE or ENGLAND or wherever) stole from the American Indians. The MEXICAN (SPAINISH) forefathers stole from the Aztecs and Mayans in MEXICO but they also stol from the INCAS in the South American Andes.
Why punish the 90% for the stupid comments of the 10%, but also why not reward the 10% that actually do work in the US and bust their butts to make their lives better.

First off we didn't steal anything, secondly if they want to come here come in legally just like we would have to do if we wanted to live in Mexico, and Thirdly do not fly your Mexican Flag in my country and speak Spanish here our language is English. If you want to speak you native language at home so be it but teach your children to speak English and become a citizen for God sakes. And why should we the taxpayers of this great nation have to pay for your medical care, legal representation, place to live and food to eat when you go on welfare, also if you are using forged documentation to get a job what makes you think you deserve Social Security at the cost of Americans that have paid their whole life for these benefits. Go back to your country and work to change it to be the way you want it to be...

I believe there should be laws. Still, can you blame Juan for the way he feels? Most of what he says is true, barring the "Alien" rights issue. I'm not saying what he did is legal or acceptable, but how can you blame a person who wants and gets a free lunch (and dinner, etc.). This is why we need to cut out the political partisanship here and get together to agree on how to apply the law and the consequences for breaking it.

It sounds really fake to be honest. But lets just say it isnt. I know because I worked with a lot of them and the ones I could actually talk to felt similar to this Juan guy. However most of them wanted to come here yes for the money but more so for the well being of their children.

That's definitely not real. It is specifically worded to generate an emotional response from opponents of immigration. It's just another one of those email forwards.
I find it hard to believe an illegal immigrant from Mexico, only here for six years, would be speak in such manner.
