Broadband internet service is provided through telephone companies, wireless internet companies, cellular phone companies, and cable TV.

I presume you are looking for a home service, not a business service.

Telephone companies offer DSL provided your home line is close enough for this service. Some other DSL providers actually use the same lines under an agreement with the Imbedded Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC) as a competitor but they would have DSL only if the ILEC has DSL.

Dish Network and DirecTV have wireless satellite based internet services. These are a bit more costly than DSL and there are periodic problems due to weather conditions.

ATT, Sprint, T Mobile, and Verizon cellular companies offer a cellular broadband. This is being rolled out nation wide but for now this is mainly available in major cities.

Cable tv, CATV, offers broadband in conjunction with their tv and in some places with their voice.

There are regional wireless local carriers also - check with your local Yellow Pages for more on these. These people have a high capacity line to the Internet.

You will not likely ever get away from the major carriers (phone or CATV) because the needed infrastructure requires major carriers to achieve connection

Virgin's cable product is good and generally out performs their ASL service. Eclipse is pretty good too though slightly more expensive. There are also a few 1 month contract options such as plusnet which you can always cancel if you are unhappy with, see here for more details: http://www.broadband-expert.co.uk/broadband/compare-broadband-deals.php

Hope this helps.

I use AT&T yahoo DSL for my telephone and internet sevice. It works great for me, and I love it, but it is not available in all areas. The rate is reasonable and their service is good. You can call AT&T and inquire about services and cost in your area, or use this link to learn more.

I am not the least bit disappointed.

Good luck!
