If you say "ngiger" to a black person with whom you are angry, it is assumed that you are generally racist towards all black people. However, if you get mad at a woman and call her a "btich", people seem to understand that you are only directing your insult at that individual woman.

Sometimes people get angry and say hurtful things for the sake of being hurtful. It is almost always forgiven unless the word "ngiger" is used to produce the hurt.

Is that fair?

stm: I think you have missed the point of my question. N is clearly more inflamatory than B is. You are not going to here N used on TV in a negative way in the cavalier way you here B. As a nation we are far more reluctant to use N. That somehow seems to be a double standard.

Tac: You are too sensitive. Redskin is actually meant to be a compliment. Football teams don't name themselves after cowards or weaklings. I think everyone (blacks, women, native americans, etc.) should lighten up. THese are all just words. They only hurt you if you are silly enough to care.
Honkey and cracker certainly don't cause me to lose any sleep.

I think it has to do with the history of the words.
"B" as we all know, is the term for a female dog. How it became an insult, I don't know.
"N" however, has a history that means the person is not even a human but has the worth that is less than livestock. It's an old and raw wound that won't heal soon.

But I see where you're coming from on this. Looking at the words as just words, the intent of use is both insulting and degrading.

No it not fair! The ***** thing is considered to be a kick to all women to some people, and in some areas. Neither word should be used by anyone. Why is it wrong to call a black person a "******" , but its OK for our nations capital to have a football team called "Redskins" As a Native American the term Redskin is the same to us as the term ****** is to a black person. It is a derogatory term used back in history, by whites. How far would it go to call the team the Washington *******. Yet no one seems to care or think its a big deal. When we tried to get teams to drop the Indian names unless they had an Indian heritage, it was laughed at, and we were called to sensitive.

See what I mean, my compter put asterisks on all the words except Redskin. Point made!

Actually, if you use "btich" in anger, you're sexist. People might be slower to call you on it, but that doesn't excuse it. So, you don't get a pass on any other words just because the people you hang with are approximately as sexist as you are, but apparently somewhat less racist.

Added: Still don't matter. Since using either in anger is clearly wrong, you shouldn't be doing either. The "double standard" you refer to is irrelevant; neither use should be forgiven.

No it is not fair. Both words are insulting and degrading, I have no idea why society has come to accept "*****" as an ok word to call a woman. Personally, I find it unacceptable and sexist. As well as "n!gga/er" as racist.

More special rights for blacks. They are the most sexist people in America today but no one ever calls them on it ESP white feminists.

That is true but it is probably beside the point as to it's fairness.
