why does buffalo bill have swastikas through out his house? it doesnt seem to fit with his character at all were they just looking for a cheap easy way to add evil to him?

l really have no idea, and it wasn't explained in the book, but if l had to guess l would say it's tied in with the Nazi's attempts to build a 'perfect' ayrian nation? Something to do with Buffalo Bill's own self-esteem issues, wanting to change himself, and transform into something better than he is. Maybe he was inspired by them or something? lt's just a stab in the dark though!

Never considered that point, but if you think about it, it could fit into his character. The nazis didn't consider jews, or anyone that didn't fit into their "master race" as people. They were useless beings that were destroying the world and could be disposed of without guilt. Bill (or Jame Gumb as was his real name), would've been inspired by that. He doesn't see his victims as people either, but as material to use for his "suit".
Also, remember, the guy is pshycologically messed up. Reason may have gone out the window for him. Also, who's to say HE put the swastikas all over the place?

I thought that the swastikas symbolized the fact that he was a "skin hunter" like Hitler was said to be during the Holocaust. In any case, Jame Gumb is still one of the creepiest killers in film history.

You must read the books, they are much better than the movies. Although the swastikas aren't explained they really are good reads, there are three different books all about Hannibal Lector.

I never even noticed that. I assume your point is correct. It seems that B. Bill is more into the act of what he is doing & not focusing in on a race or culture.

He obviously hates women. It is not much of a stretch at all to think that he might hate Jews, blacks, and other races as well. How does it NOT fit his character?
