When I see some of the outpourings on Y/A I get the impression that a great number of Americans regard themselves as fundamentaly superior to the citizens of say Iran or Iraq. They seem to feel that these people are part of an homogenised entity that is dedicated to hatred and evil and as such worthy of attack. What is it in the American Psyche that
creates an attitude that is so clearly at odds with logic and common sense?

I am getting the impression that religion is tied up with all this somehow and feel bound to make the point that Christianity and Islaam have the same Deity and that only the "how to worship" manual differs.
As for Millie you seem so incandescent with rage that your answer soon ceases to lack comprehensibility. If you would care to edit your answer I shall try to understand the point you are making.
I cannot remember which member was telling me that If I don`t like it I should get off America`s internet. I am glad you answered though because you are the perfect case study for the question I have posed. I look forward to seeing some of your other work.

James 8910: I think you will find that I worded the question in such a way as to avoid the accusation of blanket generalisation that you present.

James 8910: Yes they do. Christians, Muslims and Jews all worship the same God. Try looking it up on America`s internet. I know you would like to think that your own American piece of Mumbo Jumbo is in some sense superior to everyones elses but I am afraid you will have to face the fact. You are a Muslim with a different instruction manual.

JUST FOR THE RECORD ...JAMES 8910 , YOU'RE THE EPITAMY OF AMERICAN NAIIVITY
anyway americans dont "create the technology that moves the world forward"! ...... it'd be more likely somewhere like Japan that does that....Just because ye have a hand, and have had a a hand, in nearly all the wars that strip people of their sense of self doesnt mean when ye take that sense of self for yourselves ye become greater and more intelligant beings.....a bit like collecting skulls in the Predator movies.

American people have been brainwashed for many many years and have gradually evolved into a naiive and gullible being...and over sensitive beings too...and the traits of any person like this is to sit on their high horse and shoot down anyone that gets close enough to tell what they are about...
(and defend themselves by eliminating anyone who objects to how things are done)
I think shame of who ye are occurs on a greater scale than any other nation too....but you know when little kids do something they know they shouldnt have in a little fit of anger, like smack back or something, and they know its done now and they're in big trouble, so they dont know what to do with their feelings and smack again and again and again til they get upset......yeah thats how i think of the majority of americans......they have too many religions between them all too, its bound to clash......

Anyway im probably going to get a record number of 'bad ratings' for this answer seeing as i am answering it on 'americas internet'

(and ive met lots of lovley americans so its an overall opinion as a country not the individual)

The USA is sucessful not because of superior capabiliy, but because of location and historical luck.
The factors:
*the first settlers that came here encountered a fertile land
*the natives were primitive (compared to the incoming Europeans); if the natives were as advanced as the Chinese, there may have never been a USA
*Natural disasters are relatively few. If they do happen, its not much of a shock to the economy: a hurricane in New Orleans isn't much of an economic strain as is a hurricane in the Dominican Republic, for example
*they came to WWII late and full of energy when the rest of the participants were exhausted and broke.
*the country has also had a stable political situation
*their northern and southern neighbors do not pose any serious military threat

Their success doesn't mean their smarter than everyone else (this is a ridiculous argument, since America was inhabited by people from different parts of the world),
nor does God have anything to do with it.

Yes, the American attitude, is that our Sh** does not stink. We still have that manifest destiny way of thinking. That is why we are reaping what we have sown, past present, and in the future. The theory of whiteness, is what has been practiced by this Government since this institutions official creation, both internally and externally. Just remember, in order for the one world order to take place, America must be destroyed.

9 11 was internally assisted, that's why it was so successful!
We have had the most invincible government/military for years. That is because we had some very intelligent, evil individuals in power.(Now it is just evil individuals). The most meaningful war we ever fought was the revolutionary war, every war since then, has been for the personal appeasement, of select government officials. I could go. America is a very evil institution, but pride comes before a very nasty fall, I think we are beginning to see that!

The personal strife we Americans have...IE racism, discrimination, immigration, Paris Hilton, Anna Nicole Smith, Affirmative Action. its all a part of the plan of distraction, from the real issuses.

Pay more attention to what is going on Externally IE...the G8 summit. Our relations with Russia and China especially. The middle east is the battle, the soldiers for that battle will come from the continents surrounding that extension of Africa!

Peace!

just a guess mind you but the circumstances of 9/11 may have something to do with how many americans feel about the citizens of the middle east. Remember Pearl Harbor? Even Japanese americans were castigated after that happened. One of the things that makes this country as powerful as it is, is the tendency of it's citizens to unite in adversity.

We Americans are not superior to any other people. Our God and Savior Jesus Christ is superior to any other god. We serve the One and Only True God and He has blessed this nation. Our God teaches us things like "no greater love has any man than he lay down his life for a friend." Our God teaches us "do unto others as you would have others do unto you."

The people of Iran and Iraq have a rich heritage and a much older history than America. Why do they continually fight with their brothers? Why can't they live in peace? They are oil rich nations with their people in dire poverty. This proves that God is not worshiped in the land, because God blesses. Their leaders are wicked men who do not look out for the people. Saddam Hussein was a prime example. So rich with oil yet the people living in poverty.

My psyche as you call it, I try hard to keep in tune with my Lord. It is my Lord I want to please and no man. If this makes me sound superior, then that is not my intention. I humbly follow my Lord Jesus.

Some think they are superior, but they are just another country. I mean, they just have their air of pride and its always nice for people to be proud of where they are coming from.

I think we all have that sense of pride and if you see anyone acting arrogant or proud then you always know you are better off than them

But yeah they are kinda over confident coz they have the power against most countries like iran and iraq!!

If YOU all have so much logic and YOU all have common sense, why are all of you "peaceful human beings" so quiet about terrorism??

Muslim's silence about terrorism speaks louder than words.

SILENCE IS ASSENT.

Don't complain about ours or anyone else's opinion on Muslims, we have about you all the opinion you all have looked for.

God's View of mankind :
(Revelation 7:9) After these things I saw, and, look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands.

Man has an imperfect habit of becoming prideful at times :
(Proverbs 16:18) Pride is before a crash, and a haughty spirit before stumbling.

God's view on Pride :
Matthew 23:12) Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
