I'm going to a resort for a week with a group of friends. I know that I'm supposed to get my period one of these days, but I'm not exactly sure when. If we go swimming, can I wear a tampon even if my period hasn't started...but to have it just in case it does while I'm in my bathing suit?

Thanks for your answers...but I forgot to put that we're going to a lake, we're going to be with guys, I won't be able to carry a bag, and the bathrooms are far away...what should I do?

I wouldn't, for a couple reasons.
One is that tampons absorb your natural moisture, and tend to irritate your vaginal walls if you insert them while not on your period.
The other is that the water will put pressure on your vagina and greatly reduce, if not stop blood from leaving your body while you're in water.
So just having one in your beach bag should be enough.

I've heard that this can be dangerous. That is why it is recommended that you use the tampon with the least amount of absorbency necessary during your period and so you should definitely not wear one without your period. Just be prepared and check frequently. I always spot a little first so if you keep a check on things you shouldn't have any disaster.

I would suggest carrying a tampon with you (in your bag) verses putting a tampon in while your not on your period, by doing this you increase your chances of TSS. So, just take one with you.

sure u can...but it might b better if u bring a bag w/ sunscreen and a towel and sunglasses and ur tampon and just put ur tampon on the bottom of the bag.
besides if ur friends have started 2...dnt wry about it! 4 all u no...1 of ur friends is having the same problem.
besides...god will decide and maybe u wont start the whole trip.

ehh i wouldent wear it!!! just keep a few tampons in your purse!! then if u get it in the water or sumthing just go 2 the bathroom!! the reason to not wear one before is because your taking a risk of getting TSS... wait until you get your period to wear them! have a good vacation :0

Only if you have a death wish - you could get TSS. Do you walk around all month with a condom in there in case you have sex??? Just keep it in a bag near you - and check frequently so there is no mess in the pool.

DO NOT DO THAT! get a very thin panty liner and use it on your bathing suit that way it won't stain. Check frequently and when u get it use the tampon. It's very very dangerous to use a tampon when you are not bleeding.

ow, no dont do that. wait until you get it before ever putting in a tampon. our bodies get cramps to warn us when its coming so just pay attention to yourself and be prepared. you'll run the risk of tss, and physically hurting yourself.

there's no reason why not, I suppose. But don't forget it's in there and make sure you take it out soonest afterwards.
