RE:
What is the best way to keep flies away outside while eating in my backyard?
I am at my wits end. Does any one know of a device or chemical to keep these darn flies out of the yard while eating?

Why not buy an electric bug zapper? Plugs into any standard power outlet and emits a blue light which attracts flying insects. These are then "zapped" and burned to a cinder. Don't hang them above table or grill as the dust will fall on food. If these are not available where you are, how about a citronella oil burner or candle? Hope this helps.

Mila

No if they are truly buff ducks they shouldn't be able to fly due to them being heavy in weight.Even thing they are in the Medium weight class, but they are BIG DUCKS! i would say that someone or something took them away ducks stay where they are feed and most of the time don't wounder off when they know they will be feed. they also may have found a hole in the fence and went for a walk and are just "hiding" in a spot you're not looking! give a day or two to show up i hope you find them. i hate to think anything happened to them i really like this particular breed of duck which i gather from your description are Khaki campbells not buffs! They are a light weight duck which means that they CAN fly but like i said usually they don't fly away from the place were they are being feed. Good Luck

Another answer here agrees with me and I will confirm. I didn't believe it til I did it. Fill quart ziplock baggies 1/2 way with water and hang them where flies hang out. The light reflected (even when not in direct sun) really "bugs" the multieyed fly and they leave.
We used to have fly trouble attracted by dog poop, the bar b q, hummingbird feeders and trash. No more.

Maybe you could run a line from the nearest power source and have a fan blowing real strong. Note: use the correct type of wire, only use wire thats approved for outside use, and do not let anything electric get wet or come near wetness.
