I have to find out the difference between a thesis, an explanation, an illustration, and an example....any help would be appreciated!

Your thesis statement is what you are going to try to prove in the rest of your essay. It is usually the last sentence in your first paragraph.

An explanation is just that. It is explaining in something detail. You could be explaining why something is important, what happened, who did what or whatever.

An illustration and an example are pretty much the same thing. For example: Wine is one product in the grape growing industry.

a thesis states a strong opinion, whereas an explanation might explain both sides of an argument.
