This is because according to polls MOST people are NOT against it. What you hear with regards to opposition to the bill is the MINORITY who have been very loud in expressing their views.
The polls show the bill being opposed by most Americans BUT if you look within the numbers you will see 65% of voters would be willing to support a compromise including a “very long path to citizenship” provided that “the proposal required the aliens to pay fines and learn English” and that the compromise “would truly reduce the number of illegal aliens entering the country. So it just appears that there are mixed messages being sent

Because you have been told. You people don't know what is best for your country when are you going to understand? Politics and democracy are an illusion that make people believe they have some sort of control over their lives, when in reality it is only the politicians, who you have granted ultimate control over yourselves, that have all the power.

This issue exposes Washington`s underbelly. They`ve been hiding it all too well for a very long time now...While they have jerked Americans around for years, they can`t escape this vulnerability of theirs any longer. This is all about votes, lobbyists, big business and money.....and Lord knows what else !

The answer is simple: the politicians in the US do not represent the views of the people e.g. the vietnam war, the iraq wars, or bush winning the election. lets not kid ourselves and think we live in a democracy!
