For PCOS Metformin/Glucophage is usually given to control insuline and help you produce better quality eggs.
The clomid/metformin combo I've heard is very succesful in getting women pregnant.
I did Clomid alone and had no sucess and then I did Met and got pregnant first cycle.

You shouldn't really take anything with Clomid because it can offset its effects. The exception is that the doc may have you take metformin, an insulin controlling drug, which can help you ovulate if Clomid doesn't do it for you.

I have been on Metformin for my PCOS for a year now and we have been TTC for two months. You definitely should ask your doctor about Metformin. I have heard so many success stories with this drug.

Also, women with PCOS are at a greater risk of miscarriage and Metformin has been shown to reduce that risk.

Good luck!
