Humm, I am a bit confused as to how city people claim to be country. Even though they live in the south......in my opinon you arent country if you live in the city.
And how about all these country music singers who are from cities...WTF is with that. I mean.....if you arent countrified then you shouldnt pretend so that you can make money.
Whats your opinon??

i have to say that i agree... for the most part at least... if you're citi-fied, then you're citi-fied... no way around it... and if you're truly country, no matter what, you will find a way to keep your country behind out of the city and as far away from city livin as possible... (and just a little sidenote to all you city boys readin this... if you think that puttin on one of them sad straw excuses for a cowboy hat and goin to a country club/bar makes you country, YOU ARE SO FRIGGIN WRONG!!! it just makes you look like a douche...)
my simple opinion on that is--- you might be able to citify a country boy (to an extent) but you will NEVER NEVER NEVER countryfy a city boy...
as far as country singers and country music these days... i think travis tritt said it best when he said "country ain't country no more..." it's just that simple...
so right on evo741hpr2!!! i'm glad i FINALLY found somebody that agrees with me!!!

Singing in any particular style does not necessarily require that you be from the place where that style originates. If you grew up listening to country music (or blues or whatever) and you have assimilated the "feeling" for that kind of music, it doesn't matter where you live. For instance, Eddie Rabbit was from New Jersey. Travis Tritt is from Marietta Georgia, right outside of Atlanta (so are Allen Jackson and Leroy Parnell). How about the Rolling Stones or Eric Burdon and the Animals. They sure didn't grow up in the cotton picking areas of the U.S., yet they have a good feeling for the blues.
Granted, someone like George Jones or Hank Williams (Senior - Hank Jr. and Hank III grew up entirely differently) can claim "authenticity" because they've "been there, done that." And there are certainly a lot of "country" singers who obviously don't have the feel for the music. I remember seeing a TV show years ago where Robert Goulet played a country singer. Talk about lack of authenticity!
Today's country music isn't limited to singing with a southern accent and through your nose. Most of today's country singers and writers were influenced more by the Beatles or Springsteen than they were by Hank and Lefty. That's why today's country sounds so much different than 50's or 60's or 70's country. But the emotion and feeling are either there or they're not. But the best of them know and honor the "roots" music. And that goes for any style of music.

I don't think your geographic location makes you country or not country. I think what you believe in, and what you feel determines if you are country or not. Anybody can buy a pair of Wranglers and a hat and call themselves country, but those who are really country can tell in a few seconds whether they are genuine or not. Sometimes circumstances cause aperson to move from the country for whatever reason, but you can take the man out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the man.

You have to take into account that there are city counties in the south.
