Most houses are commonly built with heavy duty wiring for electrical outlet in the laundry area so normally that really decides which type of dryer one buys.

Note that back in the early 80's there was a shortage of gas and builders started using heat pumps (that have now become more efficient) to heat homes. Later as communities expanded and the housing picked up they did go back to gas and it was possible for existing homeowners with heat pumps to upgrade in terms of obtaining a gas conversion that might also include hot water heater, gas stove and dryer (but say if you decide on a gas dryer or to replace an existing electrical appliance like your electric stove besides having to pay the extra expenses for a plumber to install an incoming gas line, hopefully where your laundry room is located it easily allows the plumber to route an exhaust outlet going to the outside of your home...bec otherwise you might want to rethink your decision.

Hope the info helps in your decision and Good Luck!

Gas can be cheaper if you already have a line in and no outside tank needs to be filled. Either way if something goes wrong repairs on a gas dryers will cost 10 times more. There are few people who will find that a gas dryer will be more economical in the end. It is usually best to get an electric one with with a warranty.

The best thing for all of us is to hang clothes on the clothes line. If you live in an apt like I do, hang your wet clothes on hangers and hang them from doorways.
