Don't have a problem with it myself. My own children are on my own photogallery (with everything else) and I did a similar one for my nieces wedding.
While there's no accounting for all the sick individuals out there, few are really interested in innocent family shots.
Also, as has been pointed out, you can either put them in a password protected directory (remembering to tell Google etc to exclude indexing this via your robots.txt) or you can set up protected areas with most reputable gallery packages.
Ask if you need more (technical) advice :)

1. I've been a father for over 18 years, so I can relate to the thrill and excitement.
2. You recently became the father of a daughter. By adoption? or is this a newborn? If she's a newborn, then you can relax a great deal - even babies are too young to interest most predators - they cry too much to be fun for a predator.
3. You have a number of options to make the photos available safely:
a. email them to your recipients, either all at once or in smaller batches.
b. create a private secure webpage (assumes you know how to do this) and email out the access information to you family.
c. use a publicly available, secure site, such as kodak's, snapfish, yahoo, etc. Some require users to register. Some require users to be invited by the person posting the photos - they have to open the link from the email in order to get access.
d. DO NOT use sites such as MySpace or Facebook. Not because they can't be made safe enough, but because they are not the appropriate venues for what you want to do.

I suggest this reverse phone lookup service: http://reversephone.toptips.org
It's a cheap service that works great!
It could be used for a much deeper search. You can use it to get hold of different varieties of background reports, and in addition cell numbers, addresses and names..
you can get unlimited reports... I ran with this because I required to verify more numbers. You can get the name, other phone number, address history, relatives, and much more about anyone!
The completly free reverse phone lookup generally doesn't provide anything interesting. To get interesting information, money will must be paid. The free searches don't provide considerably more than what may be found through the phone directory.
The reverse phone detective search tool does work, but you should use just the service that I posted above. The last thing you want to do, is pay for a service and find the numbers you want to lookup are not available in their directory.
The service that I reccomend doesn't have any kind of problem , you won't get any bad surprise!

No.If you have kids you don't run risks at all while they are so young.Nothing is 100% safe on here. You may not put any contact or personal details but is that 100%?Old fashioned photos is the safe way.My kids are grown up now but never ran a risk at that age.Protect your kid Dad100%..
Think about 3 year old Maddy and remember the creep is out there.

In generally then yes it's safe, but you might want to still think about using a password protect site, or setting up a photo album that your friends and family would need to see via an email invitation only, for added security.

there are sites where you can specify only certain people who are ok by you see the pics, but i'd not do that even.
its a pity the world is the way it is, but better to be safe .
use something like
http://www.filehippo.com/download_picasa/
make up a cd or dvd of the pics, then post em.. then they can even be played back on a dvd player that supports jpeg.
if you email pics, depends on how many as well it will batter your bandwidth. also not everyone you may wanna send pics to may have a pc.

Little threat exists in the way of someone actually tracking you down, but any pictures posted online are are subject to prevert minds. Try not to let internet bashers scare you, you are about as safe posting a picture online as you are walking down the street

My honest opinion is don't do it unless you can successfully control access to your friends and family. You think you don't have any contact or personal details on the site? Is the site ownership registered to you? If so give me the URL and I could check the registry and obtain your name, address, and phone number. The web is a scary place, and people should remember that.

Yes it is. If you set up a site with Yahoo Photos you can have only your friends and family see the photos. You also will be able to let your friends know by email each time you add more pics. This is how my family keeps up to date with all of the kids.

I would post them on a password protected site and then give the password out upon your descretion. I do this for my 3 yr old nephew so my out-of-state family can keep in touch with him. I would not risk even .1% of his safety to predators.
