They should have checked it But it is a grey area, their excuse would be it was fine on the day, what happened after that we have no idea.
It would be impossible to prove it wasn't OK on the day, especially as you'll have three mechanics stating otherwise.

Certainly the security of the engine mounts should have least have been visually inspected during an MOT test.
And any corrosion or fraying of the rubber blocks reported to you.
But there remains MOT's and MOT's, although all should operate to the same standard. Not so the facts.
I had an engine literally lose favour with the rest of the vehicle on the M6. Charming. It fell out, trailing pipes & cables.
Transpired that the chassis of the minibus had parted company with the mounts.
Corrosion, although the thing had a 10 months to go MOT certificate.
An MOT is not a pledge of vehicle reliability, but they are liable in not spotting such things.
I would do a bit of foot-stamping at your test station, with a veiw to them putting matters to rights at minimal or no cost.
"Is this the number that I ring to have a word with the licencing folks" would work.

Unless the engine was dangerously loose at MOT time then it wouldn't be part of the test. If it was rusting through, and this is possible then I would check the rest of the car asap and consider reporting the mot station the Trading Standards. If it fell out 6 weeks later there should have been some indication that all was not well.

Two things:- First the engine mounts are not inspected as part of the MOT.
Secondly, the tester will be looking for structural rust on the car and not within the engine bay.

If the rubber block on the mount has come adrift, then it was probably o.k. when tested, as they can part company at anytime without warning. If its the metal mounting bracket rotted then it would have been spotted by the tester and an advisary note made on the certificate.

first of all he's right. some mounts take a lot more work and are more expensive than others. can't price that without seeing the damage. sorry. check engine only flashes when there is misfire in engine. suggest you get that fixed and your shaking may stop

is the rubber in the mount broken or is the mount itself broken from the frame.Best thing to do is take it to a knoledgable mechanic and have it looked at. if its broken at the frame you could be driving a very dangerous car

mot is only valid on day if issue and yes things do just happen my exhaust started leaking only hours after an mot!!
