Kitchen: Pots & Pans, plates, utensils. Oh, garbage bags.
Bath: Face and Hand Towels plus several Bath Towels ... toilet paper. Don't forget the basic toiletries (soap, toothpaste, etc)
Bed: What are you missing?
Windows: Treatments of your choice. (Buy after you move in.)
Basic "Come Withs": unless it's a furnished appartment, you'll probbly want to toss anything left. Most unfurnished appartments come with the plastic venetian blinds to block the sun and that's about it.
Oh...buy some basil leaves and place one leaf into each cupbard and drawer in your kitchen. Helps keep down the pests.
Edit: A couch and arm chair. Kitchen table and two or more chairs.

The little stuff will nickle and dime you to death, you probably already know what kind pots and pans. Try to get thing like salt pepper sugar, mayo ,mustard, ketchup, toilet paper, cleaners mop, bucket, vacume cleaner, broom, Don't forget to start visting yard sales for what mom doesn't have. take those old appliances mom could never use they will become uesless to you too but help in the begining, all this stuff will cost you hundreds of dollars so get it now. Don't forget containers for all this. If there is a flea market near you go to one of thelarger dealers and tell them your situation and that you don't have a lot of money. They will out fit you pretty well.
congrats on your move

If you already know where you are moving to - you can call landlord or estate agent and ask what is supplied with appartment.
Then I would suggest to ask your mum what you can take, because you cannot just take things that are in use in your mum's house. If you need some essential household items but cannot afford them just yet - see what you can get for free on www.craigslist.org - in America or www.freecycle.org in UK. you can sometimes furnish whole appartment from these websites for free.
Good luck! It's good to be independant, but with that comes a lot of responcibilities which you should be able to accept!
