before englands last game in the world cup against the usa some thing happened before the game started that hasent been done since at an england game, be it international or friendly at any venue world wide ?

did they stop the anthem? or did a band play it?
what? what about the anthem, was it they played the home team's first?
America's anthem was ignored? we sang the one we gave them instead of that star spangled banner bollox?

1) 1950 was 60 years ago. When you need to go that far back in time to find a win, you know you're clutching at straws. 2) Winning 1-0 is not "destroying". 3) American spirit? American delusion more like. To quote David Mitchell: "The poor Americans think they're living in a meritocracy - a land of equal opportunity where anyone can be President. This is why so many of them liked George W. Bush - he seemed proof that anyone, even such a prat, could rise to the highest office. They use his incompetence as proof of a utopian society, rather than his multimillionaire heritage as disproof. People doing sh*t jobs in America can look you in the eye because they believe in their equality, in their ability to become presidents or film stars, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary." Americans may be spirited, but that spirit is born out of delusional ignorance. 4) "God bless America" By this point I am close to puking. Even if God did exist, and he was so simple as to "bless" certain countries, America would be the last country on his list.

There were two squads one touring Canada and one at the world cup.
Stanley Matthews (our best player at the time and one of the worlds best) Was in Canada and only joined the world cup squad just before the USA game but still didn't play.

I really do not know, all I know is that this World Cup took place in Brazil and was the only WC competition not decided by an outright final.
