A wise man is an ancient word for a saint or great person. A wise guy is a new age word for someone who can do relatively difficult works like successfully earning a job in the times of recession, or getting tickets for the baseball game. For example: A wise guy is succesful in marrying a beautiful girl, and he becomes a wise man when he realizes that he should not have married! :-P

A "wise man" is hard to find but there are plenty of "wise guys" anywhere!
A wise man knows how to listen and speak and a 'wise guy' doesn't know how to do either one or the other!

A wise man normally refers to a man who is perhaps older and presumably wiser.
On the contrary, a wise guy refers to someone like a smart Alec, and this could be because "guy" is a more callous term.
When "wise guy" is used, the user tends to be being sarcastic.

Hmmm. I guess for the same nonsensical reason that "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean the exact same thing!
