Long division works the same as a improper fraction

Example

22 divided by 5 = 4 with a remainder of 2

22 / 5 = 4 2/5

22/5 is a improper fraction converted to a mixed number of 4 2/5

2/5 = 0.4. . . .This is the decimal

22 / 5 = 4.4

Whether long division or short division, the same rules apply.
Consider some examples:-
Example 1
Divisor 4
Remainder 3
Remainder is 3/4 = 0.75
Note 3/4 = 75/100 = 0.75

Example 2
Divisor 5
Remainder 3
Remainder = 3 / 5 = 0.6
Note 3 / 5 = 6 / 10 = 0.6

Example 3
Divisor 8
Remainder 6
Remainder = 6 / 8 = 3 / 4 = 0.75
Note 3 / 4 = 75 / 100 = 0 .75
Hope these examples are of use.

divide the remainder by the divisor and you'll get the value in decimal of the remainder. Example: 10 / 4 = 2 remainder 2; the answer in mixed whole number and fraction is 2 and 2/4 or 2 and 1/2. if you divide the remainder by 4 you'll get 0.5; else, you divide 1 by 2 results to the same value in decimal.

Long division

a | b 3/7

c 2
a | b -ac=r 3| 7- 3*2= 1
c.d 2. 3
a |10r-a.d 3| 10*1 - 3*3= 1

Just multiply the residue r by 10 each step and put the multiplier behind the decimal point

Just put a decimal point after the number you are dividing into and add zeroes to however far you want to go. Then keep dividing in the same way as before. Put a decimal point in the answer directly above the decimal point in the quotient.

So if you were dividing 324 by 7
write 7 ) 324.0000

Your answer will be:
46.290
