My kids ( 21,,19,,16) think my newly aquired 87 Electraglide classic should have all its factory fitted accessories ( faring which houses most of the electronics, panniers and rear box with radio arial ) stripped off and make it look more streamline. I think it looks fine as a classic that it is and believe that originality has its benefits. I like the way Milwalkee intended it to look. What do you think.

Well first off it is your bike so you do what you want with it. And if you are looking for it to keep some sort of monetary value I suggest you just restore it as is...but if making it look like a brand new bike and you are all about making your kids happy then by all means ruin the integrity of the bike and make it look cool but worthless. Yeah it's only an 87 but soon it will be worth a bit. All in all the decision lies in your hands. Choose wisely grasshoppa.

If it was an earlier model I'd say get rid of the fiberglass. After all, you could just store the stuff and mount it back up if you ever wanted to sell the bike. But, the later FL's like yours are in a frame that's uglier than home made sin. The ones from the early 80's and before were good looking bikes but it's better to keep the covering on the later ones.

strip it! i have a soft tail that is nothing but bare bones running gear and a nice paint job. everywhere i go it stands out and i always get compliments on it. i say go for it! i only have about an extra 5K of cash into it, i think it was well worth it, but it's a personal choice you have to make.............it may look cool but once you go custom the ride sucks. did 400 miles yesterday and paying for it today.

It would probably look cool. But it's gonna be a lot of work and a lot of $$$$$ unless you do a hack job.
If you like the way it is leave it alone.

Your ride, your choice.
I do what I want to mine.
I think the neck area on the larger ones is ugly, but that's my opinion and don't count.
You like it the way it is, fine. You don't like it, change it.
Teenagers got learnin' to do anyhow.

you could remove just about any of these parts without damaging the bike or reducing its value,as long as you keep all the original parts. You can go to any Harley dealership and veiw lots of replacement parts to customise "your" bike to your liking.Tell your kids to buy there own and do as they want.

Hi,
let your kids get their OWN Harley and modify the way they like with their own money,,, provided THEY have not contributed in the purchase.
Afterall it is your own, so be tough and do what you like.. not what others like,

leave it the way it was intended. Harley D spent millions and millions of dollars setting up that bike to run "just right"....why mess with it.

It's worth more in its original condition, keep it classic, or as close to classic as you can.
