When my son was a small child, he had gone to the grocery store with me. When we arrived home, I started putting up the groceries and he came in the kitchen with a small die cast car I knew didn't belong to him. I asked him where he got it and he said he had taken it from the store.
I finished putting up the perishables, seat-belted him into the car, and back we went to the store. I went in with him and we found the manager. I then told my son to show the man the car and tell him how he had acquired it. The manager and I winked at each other and I asked the manager if he was going to call the police and report the theft. My son turned green and then began to cry. The manager told him if he would come back to the store tomorrow and do some chores around the store, his debt would be paid in full. The next morning, my son was up 3 hours before the store opened and told me as he stepped out of the car it would be a cold day in hell before he ever stole anything else. To my knowledge, he never did it again.

Honesty is found in those very special and rare humans, that actually can look you in the eye and speak the truth gently. Closest living examples, in my opinion, would be the Amish. Example, when the man shot the children in their school, his wife was so ashamed, she was going to move away. The elders came and asked her personally to stay. In my book, that is honesty when living a religion.
