Counterspy is a legitimate antispyware programme from the Sunbelt stable, makers of Kerio Personal Firewall - it's picked up Istbar which is a nuisance adware/search hijacker - if they have been placed in quarantine then they cannot affect your system - however, you will have to buy Counterspy to remove them permanently. If you want free alternatives to Counterspy then try Spybot
http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Spybot_-_Search_and_Destroy/spybot.html
Or Spyware Doctor Starter Edition which you can download as part of the Google Pack
http://pack.google.com/intl/en/product_info.html?sd
tip: remove a lot of the other stuff and download them another time; click on "Add or remove software" - select "None" - then select Spyware doctor only and download the Google Pack
To remove rogue security products, try Rogue Remover - free here

I can't remember if CounterSpy is a legitimate program or not - I've forgotten the name of the site but you can check to see if it's on a list of fake Anti-spyware programs.
Use Spybot Search&Destroy and AdAware SE, they are both free and pretty good. If they don't find anything then Counterspy may be giving you a false alert.

I am not familiar with Counterspy, but normally when a file is "quarantined", it means that is has been moved into a directory were it is not being used. Your PC is currently running just as if the file has been deleted. The quarantine only gives you the ability to "undelete"/"unquarantine" the file is it turns out to be needed. But if you have been running the PC for a couple hours with the file quarantineed and the PC has not crashed, then the file is not needed and it is safe to delete it.

Yep, CounterSpy is fine. I thorough recommend it to everyone as a backup to AdAware. Just delete the file from quarantine.
To the others reading this, there is a 15 day, fully working trial - and it's well worth the £9.95 for the registered version. Gotta love anything with a 'paranoid' setting :)

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firefox for free, Just have a try:

I have never heard of counterspy. it sounds to me like it is a pop-up. i used to get a lot of these sought of things come up and all i did was enable my pop-up blocker. a lot of these are just scaremongering adverts to get you to buy their very often useless product. try using spybot and avg 7.5 both are freeware. hope this helps lol
