I have been to the cinema alone!
Whats wrong with that??
I had a lovely time..no one chatting to me through the film and best of all, no one sat by me because I was alone..perhaps they thought I was a weirdo??
Still, it was a lovely experience and one of which I wouldn't hesitate to do again if I wanted to see a film no one else wanted to see.
Its not about social acceptance..its about being confident in yourself!!!

I regularly used to go to the cinema alone when I was a shift worker. Until you've seen films like 2001: A Space Odyssey or Apocalypse Now in CinemaScope with 8 track stereo in a theatre that is totally empty except for yourself you really don't know the meaning of the phrase "mind blowing".

I'm not sure if its socially acceptable. I think it all depends on how you feel in your head about it when you actually go.
Ive been a few times on my own and found it both liberating and slightly embarrasing.
Really enjoyed the movies i saw it had a totally different feel when you go. But the boy behind the ticket sales really embarrased me, when i asked for one ticket for whatever it was, he repeated over the speaker ONE to see bla bla. V-embarrasing. So you could always book online and collect there. Or just face the spotty 12 year old thats selling tickets in a cinema and think oh well boyo, your at work and i'm off going to the flix...

Yeah, I've been to the cinema on my own. Why bother about what people think of you? If you get too caught up with what is socially acceptable we all become sheep and the world becomes a very dull place. Each to their own .

I think that if you enjoy doing something that's legal, like going to the movies by yourself than do what you like. There are many things majority of today's society thinks is "uncool" but some members thinking drinking and driving is "cool", so Ill let you be the judge of that.

Society isn't always right about things...I go to the movies alone and I make some new friends in ym college town and you never know who you'll meet if you go alone!

Of course I would!!! A cinema is for watching a movie, not talking and socialising! Who the hell cares when someone is alone or not! They are there to stare at the screen, not evaluate the audience! Besides, it's dark!! Who sees you?? LOL

I see no problem with it at all. I'm 31,single and little to no friends, I keep to myself. I always go to the movies by myself, usually the day showings though, it's cheaper. I find night time showings are too crowded. But it's not that I care at all which time of day I go to, which you shouldn't either, it's not weird in anyway to do things like the movies by yourself.

Yes! Esp if u like one enuf to watch it a few times! What is socially unfavorable is making lots of noise that prevent people from enjoying the movie. U can treat it as a personal time for yourself.

Yes, i have done it loads, Reservoir Dogs being one when no one had heard of it and telling people it was about a robbery gone wrong didn't entice anyone. It depends on the movie, I wouldn't for a comedy or one that will generate discussion as you have no one to quote or discuss it with afterwards and that can be weirdly frustrating!
