you can combine the previous three answers and get an idea that this is a "yes and no" type subject...

If you buy a NEW laptop with XP installed you CAN upgrade to Vista later. Some vendors have given a free upgrade to vista with the purchase...but there's a "however" or "but" when you do this. Vista requires minimum system requirements to run on ANY computer. So do some checking to see what these requirements are and make sure that the new purchase meets them...

second issue is...if you have hardware (such as a printer etc) that you will want to use on any computer, that has Vista installed, may not run on it. You may end up buying new hardware that is vista capable. Vendors may be upgrading the drivers and software for their equipment to run on vista by now.

My personal choice was to buy a laptop with XP installed on it...and it came with the free upgrade. The laptop IS Vista ready...I took the upgrade disk and set it on a shelf. I'll wait a bit untill MS gets the bugs out of the vista O/S before doing the upgrade. Any security issues that vista may have over win XP can pretty much be resolved with free or purchased software (such as firewalls and anti-virus)

So it's pretty much a personal issue of whether to get on the bandwagon with Vista or start with a tried and tested XP. BUT if you do go with XP you should be able to upgrade later (to vista)

Good luck

well use xp for now, vista requiring too much resources (high pc)
vista have some batter look and security but i don't like environment
that vista have batter security you can have in xp by installing Zone Alarm and look by installing Window Blinds
my recommendation is: don't use vista - xp is batter
and that which program cannot run and which can is a long story... is isn't possible to number all applications

All applications that ran on Win XP will also run on Vista.

It is best to buy Vista WITH (together) your computer so that you would not have any driver problems.

Vista looks better than XP. It is also more secure and reliable.
