Just to be friendly and acknowledge another rider. When it started, there were very few motorcycles on the road. Today, that is not the case - but the waving continues.

Very hard to explain but easy to feel
any way, it is a sign of friendlyness, social, respect
All is all, it is a positive behavior that needs to continue
it helps melt down barriers in society
when I am on a bike and get acknowledged by another biker, I generally feel better, welcomed and appreciate life and the skill and joy of riding
you would also notice that if a bike stalls, some other bikers would stop by to offer help

It's to show that we're all on the road together and that bikers look out for eachother. If a biker is 'broken down', another biker who sees him will stop and offer help.

They are the only friends you have on the road. Cars don't look for other cars, much less bikers.

respect and a bond, a greeting. fisherman's that jerk that cut's me off or tries to run me off the road because he's had a bad experience with less than 1% of bike riders.

Bikers are few. And so there's some unspoken feeling of comradely. Biker's would often stop to help each other if they break down (strangers). How often did you (car driver) felt the need to stop to help a stranger?

OK I'm a biker and I'm not suppose to say. We are part of a secret society. But if they find out I said this I'll never

We are aliens from another planet and this is how we exchange info. We are not waving but communicating, our hands are like little radars.

Because we have respect for eachother, unlike our 4 wheel counterparts who prefer the middle finger.

The "low wave," or pointing at the ground, means "keep the rubber side down."
