You Shouldn't Listen To What People Say About Stereotypes,
An "Labels" When You Wear Black They Say Your Goth Or A Devil Worshiper, When You Wear Pink They Say Your A Prep,

People Have To Many Wrong Ideas Out There,

If You Like Rock Music You Shouldn't Label Yourself Like A Goth Skater Punk Or Emo,

Just Know That You Like It An People Should Understand That.

I Love Rock Music An I Dyed My Hair Blue. But That Doesn't Make Me Goth Or Emo,

If You Like Somthing Like It An Dont Care What Other People Think About It.

Thats The Best Advise I Can Give You.

Were People Not Labels.

The people who call you a goth are idiots. Firstly goths do not listen to rock music they listen to whatever they want to because goth has nothing to do with music its a lifestyle choice and true goths who choose that life path may listen to anything they want and still embrace the lifestyle that is goth.
Secondly their is a whole genre of music which soundtracks the goth lifestlye and it is not rock or Metal as so many misunderstand it is in fact a very unique style.
Older bands like Bauhaus , The Cure , The Sex Gang Children, The March Violets , Nosferatu and The Mission are goth as well as more modern bands like Diary Of Dreams, Wumpscut , Dreadful Shadows , Tapping The Vein , Tiamat , Catastrophe Ballet and Blutengel.

Alot of rock music may have a Goth influence eg. HIM , Evanescence , My Chemical Romance but they certainly are not purely goth.

There's nothing like a really stupid answer to a reasonable question.

Firstly rock music is not goth music - goths listen to Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, Fields of the Nephilim et al. (I know that there are more modern goth bands - but I stopped listening to goth in the late eighties/early nightires).

Death and Black metal have absolutely nothing to do with Goth - they are both scenes completely separate to Goth and share very different core values.

And you are what you want to be - I was a Goth (but never dressed like one). Then I got into metal - I am a metaller (my label no-one elses), sometimes I dress it, sometimes I wear a suit and tie (in fact most often because I work for a living).

Define yourself - and let everyone else f&%k off with their opinions.

By the way though - there's nowt wrong with goths - but a lot wrong with people who think there is.

I'm a total metal-head but with short hair as I work in a hospital. I'm no Goth. Just listen to your rock music load of course and enjoy life

No, but it depends what type of rock in one sense. People who are goth listen to or at least appreciate gothic rock. If you like gothic rock, as well as having a dark mind, you could easily qualify for a goth.
If it's just the average rock band, then no.

NO of course it doesnt thats like saying does listening to Paris Hilton make you stupid?
A goth is a group of people, google it to get a definition and whenver someone calls you one at least youll know exactly what it means so youll know that they dont know what theyre talking about.
You do get a genre of rock music called goth metal but even listening to that still doesnt mean youre a goth.

Keep enjoying music with meaning and tell everyone else to get over themselves, I think as a joke for Halloween you should dress as an evil goth person just for a laugh too! lol.....

No rock is good- Goth(nowdays) seems to stand for depressing teenagers who wear black lipstick and tell the whole world how uncool they are. Back in the "old days" it was about music (and hair spray!) I am a big fan Of The Cure and have been really hacked off for years that goths have hijacked them as their band- They made their first album in 1978, stick to the sisters or the mission, the oasis of their day. Now you can relieve yourself to MCR....

there is so much more to being "goth" then the music you listen to. it isnt wearing bondage pants from hot topic, it isnt buying a cradle of filth cd. its a philosophy and a life style, and something nobody knows everything about right away, if ever. if you really wanna get down to it, nobody here is a germanic nomad, therefor nobody here is actually goth, but for conventional social idiosyncracy, i'll take side with the subculture you're referring to. its a religion to some people who to choose to view it as such.
i cant imagine what kind of people you associate with who hear you like rock and make that assumption. if you were to wear flannel would they insist kurt cobain never died? how about southern rock? i live way north in a city, does the fact that i love skynard mean im pushing a cotton gin? i really hope this is a legit discussion, because there's nothing worse than someone who wants to act like they were in The Craft and draw attention to it by cuing the dark and tortured bit.

Listening to rock music itself doesn't make you goth. Rather it's the type of music itself that is considered "goth" and the way that you choose to lead your life that makes you "goth."

I have a tendancy to wear a Baltimore Ravens football cap, and I could just as easily be seen listening to music on my Ipod, all of which is rock, classic or more recent.
