With the high rate of divorce, one would think that waiting until later in life would increase the odds. Through personal experience, I was married at 27, and lasted 10 years.
Life brings so many unexpected turns, that I think age is irrelevant. What is more important is the foundation that the marriage is built upon. In the 5 months this couple has been together, they may have seen the "good, bad, and the ugly", that will allow them to face the obstacles ahead. If you couple this with support of family and friends, you could be going to their golden anniversary some day...
Wish them well, and give support, when asked.

I think it is. Im not sure if that young is the way to go though. From experiences with my friends relationships, it seems that the shorter you know someone the longer a marriage lasts. So i'm all for the short term engagement but not really at that young of an age.

At 17 these people haven't even lived. Maybe your mom was different but, would she recommend that to this person?
How can you possibly say you've explored this Earth, the world, life. I don't think so, let alone life around you, then you want to bring it to an end and get married, because that's where it ends, life. Then your stuck for the rest of your life in a drudgery of work and support, kids and payments, taxes, one thing after another. Think about it, do you want that?
