The books written since the 5th one are made to be more commercial and to fit better for the movie. I don't know and can't say for sure that Dumbledore is going to return in the 7th book, but I believe that if it will be as dramatic as the last two, there will be some bad ending for a such controversial saga, and it's worse that it all began such well... Too bad for something that was expected to become a children's book that we would have remembered after ages... But that's because some people really want to win a large amount of money. Or at least there's a certain woman writer that does.

We know there is a painting from the end of HBP. Dumbledore will still be a factor, IMHO, but not a a living person.

My best guess is that we will find out that Harry is Dumbledore's heir, and among the things he gets is the pensieve and a bunch of very instructive memories.

J.K. Rowling said that Dumbledore is not coming back to life. However, we will "see" him again. That is, Harry will discover things that Dumbledore left behind, and maybe he will have a conversation with him as a portrait in the headmaster's office.

I think Dumbledore is going to be back one way or another.
In a recent interview JKR said that "Dumbledore was giving her alot of trouble at the time." Then the interviewer asked "isnt he dead?"
JKR then answered "Yes but youll see what I mean."
(If I can find the interview I will put the link on here.)
SO that leads me to believe we will see him in a memory maybe or in his picture that we saw at the end of HBP.
Also JKR also said that Harry and Dumbledore are not related so Harry cant be his heir.
That being said I cant wait!! :D

I read somewhere than in an American version of the book, Dumbledore told Harry that a great wizard can fake his own death. Now, I'm not sure why this hasn't been put into UK versions of the book, but I thoroughly believe that we haven't seen the last of Albus Dumbledore. I'm so excited!

Dumbledore will not come back. However, there will be a character who looks like him and has the same name.

No - his body is going to be desecrated by an evil Harry clone and then consumed by Ron and Hermione in a pie baked by the evil Snape.

Or I might be talking tosh, but I don't think he's coming back.

SUre. He can be in paintings.

But its like Obi Wahn - the master must die for the student to come into his own.
