a resilient person might have learned that trait from observing how others use it successfully. it's an adapting, coping mechanism to deal with the little blows life throws at you sometimes. it might also be inborn, as some personality traits are, and not just learned. yet if it's modeled successfully, someone's more likely to adopt it for themselves. i think it's also one half of a life philosophy of not letting the highs get too high, nor the lows too low. even keel, flexible, resilient.
a defeatist will occasionally have his moment of stunning victory (who doesn't deserve that?) but the trouble comes when they are dealt a blow. we ALL have adversity come our way... it's how we rebound from that in which we differ.

A person who is determined is to come out of a painful situation is a resilient person; a defeatist just gives up.

Well i dont want to think it's inborn, if it is, i hope it's in everybody's gene.
on the other hand resilience has 2 meaning...
first is it's capability to bear inflictions without getting hurt.
more like unbreakable to me(emotionally or mentally)
if you could be like that, the physical stress wont matter for the mind & heart tells you otherwise. it's rare, but existent.
the 2nd deifintion of resilience is the capacity to hastely recover from a misfortune. that i wouldnt want 2 be.
for me the road to recovery shouldnt be swift. i believe that the best way to recuperate from the woes of a heartbreak or mental stress is Time. i dont like to hurry up when i need to undergo fulll recovery. i may end up risking my wound getting refreshed or at worst infected(in the philosophical sense of it)
:-)
the truth is if you deny the fact that you need help
(sometimes you simply cant make it on your own)
& didnt cooperate with the time needed,
Resilience is nothing but a temporary remedy.

It could be inborn, it could be genetics, it could be many things. I've discovered that most often, resiliency is developed by self awareness. It's a choice between "bouncing back" or lying on your back with your feet up. It's one of the (few) things that can actually be taught.

State of mind. Personal opinion of One's self. Self actualization etc. Or just plain old fashioned pig headedness at not wanting to let the team down.
