Humanity is always better when capital punishment is abolished...what should also be abolished is mandatory parole for some evil people...we have a man who murdered kids in Canada then sold the information so the families could have the bodies..he is now given parole hearings..he should never see the light of day but never the death penalty.

Although the last executions in the UK were in 1963 it was not until 1998 that capital punishment was abolished for all crimes. Civilised countries do not execute their citizens, barbarian States do that. Australia became civilised in 1985 when the last State abolished hanging. Our last execution was in 1967.

Four or five barbarian States are worse than the others in that they execute children, the insane and the mentally incompetent. The USA is one of these.

Capital punishment is a cruel and unusual punishment and it was quite right that it was banned.

It's not a deterrent - if it was our murder rate would have skyrocketed and those American states that have it would have lower murder rates than those who don't. America generally would also have a lower muder than all countries who don't have (all EU countries have abolished Capital punishment).

It's also a bit difficult to resurrect someone who's proven at a later date to not have committed the crime. Guildford Four, Birmingham Six, Bridgewater Three - 13 men (14 if you include the one who died in Prison) who would have been executed for crimes they didn't commit if we still had Capital Punishment.

It certainly made it a lot better in the event of executing the wrong person. And before anyone starts on the spiel of it costs too much money to keep people in prison rather than executing them. How about the billions that are spent in manufacturing war machinery. Is that OK to kill many innocent people?

Are you comparing the USA now, compared to before it abolished capital punishment. Because, it has been reinstalled.

38 states have capital punishment.

Luckily, my state does not.

No

Compare rates of violent death in the USA where they mostly have capital punishment and the UK where they don't - think I prefer the UK stats.
