There is no edge to the Universe. The Universe at this time is defined as being able to "see" out to a distance of 40 Billion Light Years in every direction. However, that is the limitation of the technical performance of our most well developed optical and radio telescope equipment. In a few years maybe we will see the development of new techniques or software which will permit vision out to distances of 60 Billion Light years or so. The main point is that there is no understood limitation to outer space (the Universe). It is vast beyond the comprehension of most earthbound people who tend to apply the rules of their Earthbound existance to all things in the Universe. This tendancy is, of course, not workable, much to their confusion and irritation. So, they continue to struggle with the idea of "where is the bottom, the top, and the sides???" And, as in your Question, where or what is the edge. Some others are even foolish enough to presume that beyond our Universe there might be another next door, downstairs, or up in the attic... Earthbound ideas...

I've generally concluded that the universe is much less of a flat space-time surface, but rather a sphere. If you think of the birth of the universe, when the singularity that it was exploded and continued to expand(which it still is), it seems logical that it would expand uniformally in all directions, like the ripples on a pond. Therefore, although hard to comprehend, if one could travel endlessly to the 'end' of the universe, in a precise heading, they would end up at there original position.

The meanest, toughest space border control officer in the known universe! If you don't have your universal passport in order your going to sent to the universal galactic penal colony to work until you drop! Or you will be deported to the Earth, a fate worse than death itself! Do you think we will ever have the technology to actually study the very edge of the universe as it expands outward?

Well yeah there are two theories one that the majority of the population knows and loves because it kind of puts and end to the infinite possibility idea and the one that you are talking about. I solemnly believe in the edgeless one but if the wall theory was correct i would imagine it would be kind off like just you know glass you couldn't go beyond it and through a vast expanse of black because in oblivion there is nothing else

I would say the other end of the Universe.
I think it is like sphere - like the Earth - seemless.
The edge is like the surface of the earth. You can go out from the middle, then you hit the land. And you are just moving on the outer circular part - towards a different section on the land.

There is no edge. What would be beyond it? Less than nothing.
