Well, because of the time period I grew up in, I'd have to say KoRn... not so much because of their music but because of the musical revolution they started for the rock world in the mid 90's. There wasn't even another band you could compare KoRn to when they exploded onto the scene in '94. I'm not saying that all the hard bands we love/loved in the late 90's and today wouldn't have made it without KoRn, but they definitely paved the way, made it easier & opened the flood gates for them. No one ever truly expressed their deepest emotions through music, no matter how dark & sadistic they were, until KoRn did. I think they made a lot of, if not most of, the great hard rock/metal bands that some of us love today a lot more acceptable. There are a lot of bands I think should be up there in the running, but because of the impact they had on me & the music world, I'll still say KoRn... whether they've "sold out" or not.

My personal favorites are EARLY Metallica, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio on vocals, and Judas Priest. But, considering longevity, popularity, and record sales, the Rolling Stones are probably the greatest rock band of all time. I love AC/DC but they basically put out the same record over and over, not a whole lot of variety. There are a lot of great bands (the Beatles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, Queen, etc.) but their time together was brief compared to the Stones. Jeez, the Stones have been touring, making records, and writing hit songs for over forty years! No other rock band can touch that!

This My Chemical Romance crap is such a nuissance. Bunch of 12 year old kids...give me a break. We're talking the greatest rock band ever, not the latest flash in the pan with one or two albums...

I say the Rolling Stones or AC/DC take the nod here. Both have a proven history of tremendous rock albums and anthems spanning many decades. They actually toured together recently...can you imagine?

Hmmm, the Stones and AC/DC in one venue and My Chemical Romance and Lincoln Park across the street. Which one would be billed as the greatest concert ever....tough to call.......(insert blatent sarcasm here).

It's a close tie between My Chemical Romance and Linkin Park but I'd say MCR. The reasons:

a) They are different in lyrics wise, compared to other rock bands

b) Their songs are more catchy

c) They excel in angst-ridden songs as well as emotional and sentimental songs

d) Their album artworks are all beautifully done and designed, really great! And the best thing is, Gerard Way (the frontman) himself created all those artwork!

Looking at Gerard, you may think he is the 'tough' sort of guy because of his singing style and lyrics. But he actually does art (brilliantly) and that shows off his softer side. And that's really awesome. It's nice to see two sides to a guy because then you know him better. Plus, I really think he deserves an award for his wonderful artwork and also for being a great frontman.

Anyone ever heard of Zeppelin, Cream, or the Stones??? Most of the bands mentioned above would never existed without the influence of these great bands.

They r the best cuz if u actually took the time to listen to thier lyrics they have meaning. And they have helped me through the bad times in my life. I dont think people know how strong their lyrics r and how much they mean to some people. My Chem writes songs from the heart and thats y they have such an effect on people. And their meanings r TRUE and sraight from the heart. So for the people who say we just say ther the best cuz their new........not true......Their the best cuz their lyrics can move so many ****** people it's not even funny.
I know people who's lives have litterally been saved by the lyrics of My Chem and thats not stretching the truth at all.

hmmmm...i don't know, before if you would ask me this question i would say MCR, but there are other great rock bands out there, who diserve credit, like the one's who influenced the rock bands we have today. i'm really not sure who the best is, but my favorite is MCR

oh! and hey, lucky13, you said that your favorite rock band is your favorite or the best because of what sh!t goes on in your life well, then how can MCR, and linkin park be sh!tty, and sucky if it is what helps people get through the sh!t in their life? answer that one? see, on that scale, it doesn't matter iof the music is good or not, it just matters if it can help you get throught stuff.

i always love this question, it starts such great arguments. i would have to agree though that all the My Chemical Romance sh!t is just that...sh!t. linkin park sucks just as well in the big picture of rock music. i think the best rock band ever is different for everyone. i think it depends on who you relate/related to when sh!t goes in your life. for me TOOL is the best rock band ever. i could listen to all their albums all day everyday and never get tired of them. they have so many layers in their music. i always find something new. although i know this will be argued. I love TOOL and always will.
