Transgender isn't a lifestyle any more that gay is a lifestyle. Transgender does deal with gender identity while Gay is a sexual orientation. However, I think we are part of the community because people discriminate against all of us based on their perception of our gender and sexuality whether its real or perceived. Yet, we each have separate communities as well. There is a gay community and a lesbian community and a bi community and a transgender community. But there is also an LGBT community. These communities also discriminate against each other which is insane I think.

I think it's more a matter of being more accepted .. I see no reason to force it to be seperate.. nor do I feel that they should be forced into the label either.. I hold that the gender they feel they should be (regardless of whether they get surgery or hormones) is appropriate.. I think they are as much a part of the gay community as they wish to be.. and I try to hold no preconcieved notion of who a person is without knowing them.. so, it makes life more interesting in the finding out..

I believe so. I'm transgendered and feel very connected to my LGB brethren!!! Being transgendered is not a lifestyle, we are born with it, just like gays and lesbians. I'm sure other transgender folk are just as scared to reveal this to others as any homosexual person might.

Only if they're also gay. 'Transgender' is a lifestyle, not a sexual orientation.
