a friend and i are going to Chicago and have rooms at the Embassy Suites downtown. he wants to take public transportation (with our luggage) to the nearest stop and then walk. i disagree, and would prefer a cab. he's a penny pincher; roughly how much would fare be from the airport to downtown?

you can probably get a cab for about 40 dollars.... depending on where you are staying - you can take the CTA BLUE LINE TO OHARE it will cost you about 1.50 a person. It really is safe and direct (however it depends on where downtown you are staying) I used to live off of the blue line and would take it downtown (only 15 minutes one way) but there are hotels downtown that would require transfers etc to the Blue line that might be confusing to someone who isn't familiar. Although it is pretty safe although some of the subway stations don't look the cleanest (they're working on it) If your flight is at 6 am you will likely be leaving the hotel at about 4:00 AM - this is good because you won't have traffic. I went there last year, if I remember correctly it was about $40 (USD) from Ohare to china town which is just next to downtown in chicago. Quite ex.!

Its pretty expensive...like $60 or so if I remember...its a good 30-45 min ride depending on traffic....Try the Metra or a Bus service.....
