Or is it like the Lavasoft Ad-Aware se, free forever as long as it is downloaded in your computer (it even comes with updates). I just downloaded Zonealarm Anti-virus only to find that it is free but only for the trial period of 15 days.
Or any other recommendations for good and free forever anti-virus?

It's free forever and you get exactly what you pay for.

I will come around to your house for free and put a free lock on your door to keep out theives. Trust me? I wouldn't, nor would I use free antivirus software.

Install it while you save a buck or two aside everytime you've got one spare so you can actually purchase a proper antivirus program that was designed and made by people who are paid to do it. You will find the quality MUCH higher than the free garbage that gets peddled around the internet, sixty bucks might seem like a lot of money but the amount of stuff that Avast and AVG miss (and the fact there is no expert support from the companies that make them) makes it worth it.

You can get a completely free version of it that does not expire. You may have downloaded the trial of the full version which is a paid program.

BitDefender is arguably the best free AV. Other quality free AV apps are AVG, Avira, Avast, ZoneAlarm Free AntiVirus, and Adaware Free Antivirus.

AVG is free for 3 months I think. But I like CyberDefender better as it is much faster and catches 95% of bugs out there including spyware. All free.

AVG by Grisoft is free forever (NO MATTER WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY), the version of zone alarm you installed was Zone Alarm Pro, it gives you the option during installation if you want the trial for Pro or just the free version
